Wunjo! was formed in May 2005, when Tony, then a musician in Beltane Border Morris band, and sound girl Angie, both having played at the side's Halloween ceilidh, together with Debs, a dancer, decided that they wanted to play for dancing more often. Guitarist Mel, also from the morris band, was seconded, and the foundations of Wunjo! were laid.

Having enlisted the help of a fiddle player, plus Mark as sound engineer, Wunjo!’s first gig was in October 2005, which promptly resulted in a further booking. A period of intense practise followed, and by April 2006 the band was undertaking a number of further gigs, all gained through word-of-mouth recommendations. The line up at that time consisted of Angie, Debs, Mel and Tony. As the band still needed another lead musician, Lynnette joined in September 2006, completing the present ideal format.

The present band members are:

Lynnette Bush on Violin and Viola
A musician for 20 years, she has played many types of music in many formats, from classical quartets, through traditional material, to acoustic rock. She has been a member of the Hampshire Youth Orchestra, and besides being a member of Wunjo!, also plays with rock band Murdoch and a locally-based classical group. She can also play flute and keyboards.
Mel Norris on Guitar
Mel has played guitar for many years, but his first public performance was not until the end of 2004, when he joined a Morris band. Mel joined Wunjo! when the band was formed in May 2005. He plays both acoustic and electric guitar, and besides providing solid rhythm backing, is also very handy to have about to help Mark solve the occasional technical problem for the rest of us!
Angie Ravenscroft on Accordion and Guitar
Another original member of Wunjo!, she is our accordionist, and occasionally helps out Mel on backing guitar. She tends to be the one in charge onstage, and is invaluable for her ability to always remember how the next tune goes, even when nobody else can! She has also been playing keyboards for many years.
Tony Ravenscroft on Mandola, Mandolin and Percussion
The O.A.P of the band, he made his first public performance at the age of 14, playing guitar in a church concert, after which he played in various bands in the Midlands, performing at clubs and folk clubs. After a long break from music, he moved to the West Country, and took up mandolin and, later, mandola. He tends to have a rest from time to time on stage, under the guise of playing percussion! He can also play the tenor banjo.
Debs Rendell, our Caller
Many years’ experience of traditional dancing, combined with an engaging personality and a natural ability to teach dances, makes her an ideal caller. Debs is the boss on ceilidh nights, and ably combines her two roles, both keeping the band in order and helping the dancers. Rather than leading from the stage, as most callers do, she prefers to be with the dancers, and guides from amongst them on the dance floor.
Mark Forrow, our Sound Engineer
He is the man responsible for setting up the stage electrics, making us sound good, covering our mistakes, doing the impossible in getting us all together at the same time for sound checks, and tearing his hair out with exasperation when 'things don't go as planned'! Like Debs, he looks after us like babes in arms, and is invaluable to the band. He also records our CDs.
Cat Archer-Wills, responsible for Stage Lighting
Being the artistic one, she is naturally in charge of the stage lighting, and makes us look good! Both she and Mark are excellent ceilidh dancers, and we often borrow them to show the dancers how it is done. Cat is also an artist and illustrator, and is responsible for the artwork found on this website, and our EP “Five by Four”.
